Beginner Alpine Rock Climbing Course (Single Pitch)

Aim of Course:
The aim of this exciting course is to introduce participants to the world of outdoor sport climbing in a enjoyable and safe environment at the incredible location of Mt Kinabalu. This is a very special location in a unique alpine environment and a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site. The course leads to the provision of a much sought-after qualification, awarded by a member of the British Mountain Guides, who are themselves part of the International Federation of Mountain Guides. The successful participant will then be ready to move forward onto further levels of outdoor sport climbing qualifications and experience.

Course Content:
General background to the development of bolted sport climbing and learning the basic skills and ropework for sports climbing

Advance Alpine Rock Climbing Course (Single Pitch)

Aim of Course:
To further teach safe and confident (top-rope) climbing and to give an insight into Lead Climbing. After successfully achieving the Beginner Sport Climbing (Outdoor Single Pitch) Award this qualification course allows participants the opportunity to further their skills and knowledge of outdoor sport climbing and to achieve greater levels of expertise in the sport. This will allow the participant to train and develop towards the exacting role of lead climbing under the strict and safe control of experienced instructors. The course includes an introduction to Single Pitch Abseiling. Participants will experience higher standards of rock climbing in a safe environment. The course leads to the award of Advanced Alpine Sport Climbing Award certificate. Course Content: This course is designed as the follow-on from the Beginners Course and builds on the climbing (top-roping) skills already acquired. Participants will be more confident of all safety aspects, be consistently climbing with assurance and will train and develop into low-standard lead climbing.

Hold the ‘Beginner Sport Climbing Attendance Certificate’ or equivalent nationally recognised certificate.

Alpine Rock Climbing Course - Lead Climbing (Single Pitch)

Holds the Advanced Sport Climbing Course Certificate or equivalent nationally recognised certificate. Aim of Course:

To teach Single Pitch Lead Climbing on Mt Kinabalu. Without a doubt, progression through to leading gives participants the greatest satisfaction and self-confidence. Single Pitch Lead Climbing on Mt. Kinabalu is the most rewarding and satisfying level of ability, and opens the door to the ability to climb anywhere in the Sport Climbing World. The successful participant will leave with a very high qualification, the Award of the Sport Climbing (Leading) Certificate.

Course Content:
This course builds on the climbing skills acquired from Top-rope climbs done on routes on Mt Kinabalu. Each stage must be completed satisfactorily and signed off in Log Book before proceeding to next stage Stage One – Techniques – Equipment and Rope Knots – Theory and practical exam – Safety considerations Stage Two – Lead Climbing
