HOW DO I TAKE PART IN MOUNTAIN TORQ’S ACTIVITIES?

To ensure that you get a guaranteed space, we strongly encourage advanced bookings. You can make a booking for our activities here. If you require accommodation together with our activities, we can recommend you to our authorized agents who’ll be able to assist in making all the necessary arrangements.

WAIT. I AM CONFUSED. DO I HAVE TO SUMMIT MT KINABALU BEFORE I ATTEMPT THE VIA FERRATA?

The Via Ferrata is a stand alone activity from the Summit attempt. Participants may choose to summit Mt Kinabalu and then proceed for their selected Via Ferrata Activity, or participants may choose to forgo the Summit attempt and head for the Via Ferrata direct – the second option is likely to give participants more time to enjoy the Via Ferrata. But that does not mean that you have to forgo a summit attempt, look at your physical abilities at that point in time and decide wisely.

TIMING. PLEASE GIVE ME A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION ON ESTIMATED TIMING PLEASE.

  • Begin your climb from Timpohon Gate at 8:30 am
  • Attempt to reach Pendant Hut by 3-4 pm for the safety brief
  • Head for dinner and rest early
  • Wake up call for Summit attempt at 1:30 am
  • Trek to Low’s Peak (4095.2m a.s.l.) and attempt to arrive by 6:30-7 am
  • Trek to the Via Ferrata Start Point with the assistance of the Park Mountain Guides
  • Begin your Via Ferrata Adventure
  • Return to Pendant Hut by 10:30 am
  • Pack up, have a quick bite and leave Pendant Hut for the descent to Timpohon Gate

* Please note that this timing is only a suggested schedule to keep to for an individual with above average fitness level. Unexpected weather changes can cause delays and changes to the proposed itinerary. It is vital that participants prepare themselves well before climbing Mt Kinabalu.

WILL THE ACTIVITY BE CANCELLED IN THE EVENT OF BAD WEATHER? AND THEN WHAT HAPPENS?

Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the weather up here at 3,200m a.s.l.. While we would like to let all participants attempt the activities despite the weather conditions, safety DOES come first. The Via Ferrata circuit in clear weather is exciting enough… if in rainy, windy and stormy conditions, it will be too thrilling even for the avid mountaineer.

In the event of bad weather, the planned activities can and will be cancelled. Just like how the Summit Attempt to Low’s Peak (4095.2m a.s.l.) will be cancelled in the event of bad weather.

There will be no refunds but we can suggest that a second night on the mountain may be arranged for at the Laban Rata area – either at Pendant Hut or the Sutera accommodations. This, is, however subject to availability as well as the availability of the Park Mountain Guide allocated to you. Additional costs will be incurred.
