About MT
Mountain Torq’s activities is run by Mountain Torq Sdn Bhd. Based in Sabah, Malaysia, MT promotes adventure and mountaineering activities in Asia.

Who are the people at MT? The MT team is a group of dedicated and passionate outdoor enthusiasts who are here to bring the excitement of mountain activities to people of all ages. We are fun-loving, nature-loving and quite simply, obsessed with the outdoors. To us, there’s never a dull moment on the mountains. As qualified mountain climbers and educators ourselves, safety is a big thing for us and so is responsibility. That’s why we believe in providing you with the skills, knowledge and opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors safely and responsibly. Of course, nothing thrills us more than to see the confidence you have in us, being instilled in you. Happy climbing!
About the team
The MT team is made up of South-East Asia’s most accomplished mountain climbers, instructors and educators with a shared passion for the outdoors.
Wilfred Tok - Founder
Wilfred Tok is one of the pioneers in the East Malaysia and Singapore climbing scene, with more than 17 years’ experience in leading adventure rock climbing and mountaineering expeditions around the world. On one such expedition, Wilfred had a vision of bringing adventure mountaineering to Mt Kinabalu by introducing climbers to the excitement of off-the-beaten-trail adventures. Armed with this vision and a deep passion for climbing, Wilfred left an aeronautical engineering career to pursue his dream.

Eric Wong - Director
Eric is the team’s residential expert on Mt Kinabalu, having spent more than 30 years contributing to the evolution of Kinabalu Park - turning it from a local park to a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, Eric also helped introduce several new activities to the Park such as the ‘Mt Kinabalu International Climbathon’ and the ‘World Mountain Running Trophy’. With MT, Eric is now furthering his vision of developing Mt Kinabalu into an alpine training ground and playground for the brave and adventurous in Southeast Asia.

Quek I-Gek - Director / General Manager
Ever since I-Gek climbed her first mountain in 1996, which by the way is Mt Kinabalu, her love for the mountains grew to include exploring the larger mountain ranges like the Himalayans and European Alps. She aims to one day embark on a global exploration from the wild mountains of Patagonia in the Southern Andes to the remote wilderness of north east Siberia.

In between planning and dreaming of her WW exploration, she brings her 15+ years of experience in marketing and business consultancy to help develop Mt Kinabalu into a true mountaineering centre!

Lim Chin Thiam - Director
Chin Thiam has more than 20 years of outdoor and 15 years of rock climbing experience. His expertise is in organising and conducting outdoor programs and courses and in managing overall course operations. This is exemplified through many of his expeditions and community projects.

Tan Beng Lee - Director
Beng Lee worked as an Irrigation Office in the State Drainage and Irrigation Department for 16 years - covering almost three quarters of the state of Sabah and getting up close with remote rivers and water catchment areas. In 1985, he joined the construction industry where he project managed the construction of roads, schools and integrated building complexes. Beng Lee's love for the outdoors started with a 200km trek from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat (the Tip of Borneo) in 1968. Since then he has trekked to the remotest parts of Sabah. In 1993, he climbed Mt. Kinabalu for the first time and since then, he has returned to the mountain more than 20 times scaling King George's Peak, St John's Peak, the Horn of Victoria Peak and Low’s Peak.
